What should you look for in your employment agreement.

There are many opportunities to download an agreement or copy one from someone else, but are they current, do they include the latest updates, and how relevant are they to what you need for your own workplace.

Here are some of the clauses that you should check out.

  • 90 Day clause. Written correctly and including the appropriately wording from the Act.
  • Trial period. How long is the period and on what basis.
  • Pay rate/ salary. Ensure that any salary will be sufficient to cover the minimum hourly rate for EACH WEEK WORKED.
  • Hours expected to be worked.
  • Jury Service. Paid or unpaid?
  • Drug policy. When and why can you test. What do you do with the results
  • Restraint of trade. Is it enforceable
  • Job description.
  • House rules
  • Health and safety policy
  • Motor vehicle policy
  • Internet, email, and software policy
  • Confidentiality
  • Termination/Abandonment
  • Discrimination
  • Serious misconduct
  • Redundancy
  • Employee Protection Provision
